I finished Salt Marsh House last night.
Wow! What a page turner. I read the first half Friday night but started to get the heebie geebies and thought I might get nightmares 😱
I bravely read the second half last night. I love the patchwork form with the different voices all so distinct. That's very ghostly in itself. I think this is what really makes the success of the book.💓
Btw, I thought the Private was going to be Ana in disguise. Your solution was much better, it reveals Ebbs madness. I presume Ebb killed him.
I also love the way the house has a spirit and is really a character in it's own right. The women shine out wonderfully.
I'd like to add that you take the trope of the haunted house and secret violence, but make it into something strangely positive and new. The hidden chambers hide secrets of beauty, love and creativity rather than simple horror. It is hopeful also because injustice doesn't just get forgotten, it speaks out over and through time. As you will say truth will our, the voices of the oppressed will be heard. There is something very uncanny about places where violence has happened and I think although there can be regeneration, there is also the memory of walls and stone. You have captured this with love and care .But also
Great stuff! Keep it up!
Beautifully laid out too with all the different visuals, fonts etc.
This is the new book as a nice object. Page turning reveals visual surprises as well as plot twists
Basically, I loved it.
Well done, it was spellbinding
